THE RESTORATION PROJECT
The ambitious project for restoration and of technological adaptation of the Cruyllas Castel is based on the new and experimental philosophy of the recovery, for the purposes of the fruition of cultural goods and monuments without operating on them in an irreversibile way.
The project of this fascinating restoration, drawn up by Dott. Arch. Daniele Raneri, provides the installation of architectural containers made of lamellar wood and glass, placed inside the ruins of the preexisting walls ensuring, at the same time, the full reversibility of the intervention.
The laminated wood and the sheets of glass create a container of ethereal and transparent beauty that will allow the visitor to walk in the recovered halls of the castle, perceiving the image of the walls structure as if they were visiting the ruins.
The monumental complex, perched on the hill of “the old land of Calatabiano", becomes easily accessible by the installation of a modern lift tilted in glass which in a few minutes is able to reach the northern bastions of the ancient fortress. This panoramic lift enable to admire 360 degrees throughout the area between the Riviera dei Ciclopi, the so-called “Lemons Riviera” and the Valley of Alcantara, one of the most beautiful, wild and so more fascinating area of Sicily.
The restoration works of the Castle and its new uses were possibile thanks to the efforts from His Excellence Mons. Pius Vigo, Bishop of Achireale with the contribution of the European Union, Region of Sicily and the collaboration of the town of Calatabiano.
