THE SITE TODAY
The Cruyllas Castle rises on a steep hill; going down a stone footholds stair crosses by the ancient medieval village ruins scattered around the today so called “Calatabiano old land”. Inside the walls of the village are located the two churches of SS. Cross and Carmelo.
The entrance gate to the castle is constituted by a pointed arch made of lava and sandstone surmounted by corbels and, at the centre of the Court, is situated the most important area of the castle: the Hall Cruyllas. The centre of Salon has a wonderful arch on white stone having on the key a shield carved with the coat of arms of the Cruyllas family.
